“How do you know the bride and groom?”

Two most common questions I get asked at a wedding, at least 4 times at each wedding, and that’s when I know I’ve done a good job.

For me Documentary (or reportage) wedding photography is about true moments, stories and feelings. I get under the skin of a wedding, uncovering its’ character, the tale it has to tell.

That can only really be done if I’m a part of the wedding, not an outsider looking in, but an insider – fully accepted by everyone there.

So that’s what I do, don’t ask me how, I’ve honestly no idea ! I guess I’m a bit of a social chameleon, friendly, happy, able to talk about anything with anyone, a bit cheeky, I don’t dress like a photographer, or a hipster photographer (stupid short pants, bow tie, maybe a hat), I just look like a guest at a wedding, and act like one.

So, ermmm where was I going with all this ? Ah yes, if you don’t want to feel you’ve got a photographer at your wedding, look for someone like me. Oh, and look at the pictures – if people seem 100% natural and relaxed, it means they are.
